On a recent trip to Japan to visit the Otsukas, they introduced us to this Asanoka Sencha. Kohei, our host, shared with us the current production of this lighter steamed Sencha, and immediately we were hooked. An early season Sencha coming from eastern Kyushu, the sweet tropical fruit aromas dance delicately above a mellow-bodied cup. The brew is well-balanced umami, with a faint trace of astringency to give it confidence.

Hannah V. ★★★★★

I was worried a lighter steamed sencha would taste too mild, but the first steep came out clean and sweet with almost no bitterness. Second infusion at a lower temp held up surprisingly well too.

Abigail B. ★★★★★

The lighter steaming really comes through here — the liquor is pale and sweet rather than deep green, with almost no bitterness even when I push the water a little hot. Second steep at 70°C was even better than the first.

Michael ★★★★★

I was expecting something grassy and sharp, but this sencha is smooth and almost sweet — the lighter steaming really softens it. Two steepings in, still plenty of flavor left in the leaves.
