On his first trip to Asia in 1996, Mike visited many tea estates. Chamraj was a very distinctive one, with a rhythmic rise and fall of brilliant green tea fields punctuated by lots of lovely flowers. He has kept his eyes open for tea from Chamraj ever since. This tea is representative of teas from Nilgiri and is a sister estate to Korakundah.

The loose leaves unfurl into a bright, floral cup that's unlike the flat black teas I usually drink. You can taste why those green Nilgiri fields are so distinctive.

Ordered this on a whim and the second steep is where it really opened up, smooth with a faint floral finish. You can taste why the estate is known for all those flowers growing among the fields. Already halfway through the pouch.

The first steep came out pretty astringent, so I dropped the water temp on the second cup and it smoothed out a lot. It's a decent everyday Nilgiri FOP, but the flavor fades fast by the third infusion.
