Yanling Green

Yanling Green - Main image

Yanling sits in southern Hunan, China, in the mountains long associated with Shen Nong, the mythological figure credited with discovering tea thousands of years ago. On our 2026 sourcing trip, we came across this tea and were struck by how much character it carries despite its quiet demeanor. The bushes here are related to those used for Anji Bai Cha, a cultivar prized for unusually high amino acid content, which accounts for the softness and natural sweetness you'll find in the cup. For those who love our Hunan Baojing, Yanling covers similar ground from a different corner of the province, with its own unhurried character.

The misty mountain origin story is what sold me, but the actual taste of this green tea is what keeps me coming back. It brews up a gentle, grassy sweetness that feels like a quiet morning. I've already ordered a second batch.

The story behind this tea, tied to Shen Nong and the Hunan mountains, is what sold me—it adds a whole layer to the experience. The leaves are a beautiful green, and the flavor is clean and calming, like a quiet moment in those ancient hills.
