I usually steer clear of dark roasts because they turn ashy on me, but this one stays smooth and sweet all the way through the third steep. The leaves unfurl into big whole pieces in the gaiwan, which tells me it's decent quality leaf underneath that roast.

The heavier roast really comes through here — toasty and dark in a way that's different from the greener Tieguanyin I've had before. It holds up well through several steeps without going bitter.

I brewed this at 90°C like I usually do and the darker roast gives it this sweet, toasty finish that lingers. The leaves unfurl into full pieces after the second steep, which tells me it's decent quality. Already halfway through the bag.
